FIRST TIME IN ORLANDO – HOOK THE FUTURE KID’S FISHING CLINIC

Our fishing clinics kick off with a dynamic, thirty-minute session where Capt. Don dives into the essentials of fishing – from techniques and tackle to safety. Using charts and posters, he explains the water column concept, encouraging kids to identify fish species that inhabit each level, making the experience engaging. He emphasizes the significance of understanding the habitat and diet of target fish to select appropriate baits and weights. Demonstrations on casting and fish reeling involve volunteers, bringing concepts to life, while fish mounts showcase the diversity of aquatic life, from bottom dwellers to surface chasers. At the Species Station, children get up-close with various fish mounts, exploring the differences among species that live at different water column levels, including pelagic and freshwater fish.

The clinics also focus on water conservation, highlighting the benefits of using circle hooks and dehookers for sustainable fishing practices. Discussions extend to marine life conservation, prompting kids to think about other sea creatures and the impact of fishing lines and litter on them. Practical advice is given on organizing waste on boats and recognizing disposal units at docks for fishing line recycling.

Safety is a paramount topic, stressing the importance of fishing with a companion for safety, applicable even to casual fishing in nearby ponds. This comprehensive approach not only educates but also fosters a responsible and safety-conscious mindset among young anglers.
