Overview
Mahi-Mahi Fishing, also known as Dolphin or Dorado, are a favorite among Florida offshore anglers. These vibrant and acrobatic fish can be found off both the Atlantic and Gulf coasts. With the Gulf Stream off the Florida Keys and the offshore waters around Miami and Fort Lauderdale being particularly productive areas.
Best Seasons for Mahi-Mahi Fishing
Mahi-Mahi can be caught year-round in Florida. But, the best fishing usually occurs in the spring and summer, from April to August. This is when these fish migrate closer to shore, often following sargassum lines and floating debris.
Fishing Techniques
Mahi-Mahi Fishing can be caught by trolling with lures or bait. Or, by sight casting when fish are spotted near the surface. These fish are attracted to floating objects and structures. So look for birds, debris, or weed lines when searching for Mahi-Mahi.

Mahi-Mahi are one of the fastest-growing fish and can reach up to 20 pounds in their first year. They’re also known for their vibrant color changes when excited or out of the water. Displaying a mix of bright blues, greens, and yellows.
