Boating Industry’s ‘Super Bowl’ Brings Billions to Florida Economy

Economic Impact from 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show Could Near $2 Billion

As proud participants of the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show and looking forward to attending again in 2024, we at Black Label Marine Group are thrilled to share insights from this spectacular event. Known for selling top-notch brands like Sea Fox, Caymas, Crownline, and Finseeker boats, we’re excited to see everyone next year at this grand boating extravaganza!

The Venice of America’s Boating Super Bowl

For Fort Lauderdale, the annual boat show is not just an event; it’s their own version of the Super Bowl. “This boat show more than doubles the economic impact than the Super Bowl,” said Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis. The event, which is the largest in-water boating event globally, attracts over 100,000 attendees and showcases everything from sporting vessels to mega yachts.

A Historical Perspective

From its humble beginnings in 1959 with just 13 boats, the show now generates over $1.8 billion for the economy, with boat sales exceeding $800 million.

The Economic Powerhouse

The show is not just about boats; it’s a significant economic driver. “Many thousands of jobs have been created not just for the show, but year-round,” Trantalis noted. The 2023 event alone is expected to have a $2 billion impact.

A Boating Community

Fort Lauderdale is a true boating community, with about 400 boats traversing downtown’s New River daily. The show’s success reflects the city’s deep connection to the marine industry.

Beyond Luxury

While some attendees come for ultra-luxury vessels, the event also boosts small businesses and helps lower unemployment. “It’s a very robust ecosystem,” said Jenni Morejon, president and CEO of Fort Lauderdale’s Downtown Development Authority (DDA).

Looking Ahead

The 2024 event will mark the 65th anniversary of the international boat show. The focus is shifting towards more efficient and climate-friendly vessels, highlighting sustainability and environmental concerns.

The Bigger Picture

The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show is more than an event; it’s a narrative of personal impacts and community upliftment. “We can help tell a bigger story,” Morejon reflected.

As Black Label Marine Group, we’re not just excited about the boats; we’re thrilled to be part of a community that celebrates the marine lifestyle every day. We can’t wait to see what the 2024 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show has in store and look forward to sharing this experience with you, our valued customers and fellow boating enthusiasts!
